NEW REPORT: VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN ELECTIONS IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA Violence during elections in Papua New Guinea is a serious issue, causing women and members of other marginalized groups to be disenfranchised. To mitigate and prevent violence against women in the future, IFES conducted its second Violence Against Women in Elections (VAWE) Papua New Guinea assessment in 2022 following general elections. This report comes after IFES conducted its first assessment in 2018, following the 2017 general elections. While there’s a significant amount of work to be done, this report found improvements in providing separate polling lines and polling booths at the majority of polling locations.
