| "In the heart of Kyrgyzstan, the commitment to fostering democratic values and civic engagement has yielded remarkable success through the implementation of civic education programs and youth democracy camps. In an era where the very foundations of democracy are being challenged, our mission to empower young people as custodians of democratic values has never been more urgent. We stand at a pivotal moment in history where the choices we make today will shape the future of our societies for generations to come. By investing in our youth, we are investing in the future of our country's democracy. Recognizing the crucial role of youth in shaping the future of democracy, IFES Kyrgyzstan launched innovative Civic Engagement Camps in addition to civic education curriculum for university students. These interventions were designed to address a gap in understanding between democratic processes and the importance of civic participation among young people. Together, by fostering the informed and active participation of our young leaders, we are building a society where democratic values not only endure but also thrive.” - Keti Maisuradze |

I can confidently say that the Civic Engagement Camp amazed and inspired me with its creativity and thoughtful design. I believe it is one of the best youth projects in Kyrgyzstan.” -Adelia. |

| | Each year, IFES honors International Youth Day (August 12th) as an opportunity to recognize the contributions of young leaders around the world. To celebrate, IFES interviewed five young leaders from across programs, asking them to share more about their leadership and weigh in on topics ranging from digital innovation to meaningful youth inclusion under USAID’s new DRG policy. Sarah Ann Timreck, Youth Engagement Program Officer on the IFES Inclusion team, put together an immersive and interactive project about the young partners she profiled for 2024’s commemoration. IFES Muskie Fellow Presentation: The Europe & Eurasia team’s Muskie Research Fellow, Elizbar Khvichia, presented his recent paper entitled Youth Political Participation as a Sustainable Change Factor: Case Studies in Georgia and Armenia. Through his research, Elizbar analyzes the challenges and behaviors of youth and young adults, examining their engagement dynamics through specific country-based variables. The analysis, based on case studies from Georgia and Armenia, aims to clarify how mass protests and democratic backsliding affect youth electoral behavior and whether this leads to their formal engagement in sustaining democracy.
